BSc(Hons)Counselling(1st) MBACP

Working with overwhelm, anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse & specialising in grief support.

Sometimes friends/family/colleagues can listen but don't hear, they look but don't see. We can often feel unheard and invisible. We can feel low, stressed, generally overwhelmed and these are normal reactions to life occurrences. Sometimes these feelings and emotions persist and cause disruption to our ability to function with daily living and impact on our wellbeing. It is at times like these that we certainly need to be seen and heard. This is when counselling can help.

About me and my practice

I provide a compassionate presence, listening and validating your story and emotions, giving you time and space to explore your feelings. You also don't need to wear that facade that you have to put on for others. Being able to speak to someone who is unbiased can of itself be a relief and also not having to be afraid of upsetting them, or worse being judged. There are no judgements in my therapy room. I like to work with you agreeing a way forward together, working at your pace, being supported by me. Client preferences are taken into consideration when considering frequency and duration of sessions. I can support you if you simply need to talk or gain more clarity on your issues, process difficult emotions, have a different perspective, make sense of what is happening, find solutions, maybe want a sense of calm, feel more confident, set goals, or have a sense of direction, purpose and meaning.

I have a relaxed approach and my clients say that I am warm, understanding and offer a calm presence.

Experience

I have previously worked for a Women's Mental Health Charity providing support at two "drop-in" facilities on a weekly basis, also providing support at three female secure units allowing me to work with women who may feel isolated, afraid, even more anxious in this environment. .

I have provided support for a children's bereavement charity in the North West of England. Supporting children who are bereaved by the loss of a relative or friend and including supporting children when parents have experienced pregnancy loss.

Functioning as a family support worker for a national charity I supported families, parent(s) in their own homes. Families could be struggling with a variety of issues including their own mental wellbeing issues, addiction, loneliness, financial constraints, new to the area.

Offering counselling within an organisation which provided general mental health support. This allowed me to work with adult male and females who may have a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, individuals suffering abuse, those who have suffered historical abuse, individuals presenting with anxiety and depression, relationship issues, identity issues, bereavement, long-term health issues etc.

More recently I have provided support as an Oncology Counsellor within a Regional Cancer Unit. This involved providing counselling to individuals who had a cancer diagnosis (working with people who had an initial diagnosis, during their treatment, during surgery, recovery, or those who were receiving palliative care to end of life). I also provided counselling to those who were bereaved due to cancer. My time on the Cancer Unit also allowed me to engage in Research regarding the impact of Compassion Fatigue for Oncology Counsellors.

In my private practice I work with a range of issues from anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief, health issues including end of life, abuse, trauma etc.
